The Harlequin Football Club was originally founded in 1866 as Hampstead Football Club and re-named in 1870.
Twice winners of knockout cup competitions, winning the John Player Cup in 1988 and then the Pilkington Cup in 1991, also becoming the first British side to win the European Shield in 2001, by beating Narbone 42-33 in the final.
They became the first team to win the tournament twice, beating the French side Montferrand 27-26 in the final of the renamed Parker Pen Challenge Cup on 22nd May 2004.
The 2005 season saw the Harlequins relegated to National Divison One after a poor season, leaving them bottom of the Premiership table.
The Harlequins managed a return to the Premiership at the first attempt for the 2006 -07 season, finishing in 7th place overall.
Harlequins finished in 8th place in the 2009-10 season.
