Club Details: Leicester Tigers
Formed in August 1880 as Leicester Football Club, Leicester Tigers are one of the biggest rugby union clubs in the world. Originally formed from 3 clubs: Leicester Societies AFC, Leicester Amateur FC and Leicester Alert, their first game was played against Moseley.
Came to prominence in the 1970's, when gates were as low as 1,000, but reaching their first cup final.
Recent years have seen the Tigers win the Premiership title for 4 consecutive years, 1998 - 2002, also winning the European Cup twice in succession.
More history was made by winning the Zurich Premiership, Zurich Championship and the Heineken Cup in 2000/01, a rugby union treble.
The 2006/07 season saw a 2nd place finish but were crowned champions beting Gloucester 44-16 in the final. They also beat the Ospreys to win the EDF Energy Cup on 15th April 2007. They just missed out on a treble, losing to Wasps in the Heineken Cup Final on 20th May.
The Tigers won the 2009-10 Premiership title, one of three titles in four years.
