Scotland won the first ever international rugby union game, beating Engalnd on March 27, 1871 at Raeburn Place, Edinburgh. Scotland won the Triple Crown in 1907.
A first ever Five Nations Grand Slam title came in 1925 - the first year playing at Murrayfield. They later shared the Five Nations title in 1964 with Wales. Grand Slam winners on three occasions so far, the Scots have also won the Triple Crown a further seven times. They won their second Grand Slam in 1984. A third Grand Slam came in 1990 beating England 13-7.
Scotland also won the last-ever Five Nations Championship in 1999 but had a poor Six Nations in 2000, losing their first four straight games. A 19-13 win over an unbeaten England restored Scottish pride. The 2005 Six Nations saw a poor run with 1 win, finishing second from bottom of the table. 2006 saw Scotland finish in 3rd place.
In the 2008, 2009 and 2010 tournaments Scotland have finished in 5th place.
