Club Details: Castleford Tigers
The Castleford Rugby League Football Club was founded in June 1926 and has since competed out of its current home ground at Wheldon Road. Even in those formative years the club was quick to achieve success winning the Yorkshire league in 1932, followed by their first Challenge Cup title in 1935. Another three Challenge Cup titles have since followed along.
In recent years the club has continued to prosper in this division with some outstanding results. The Tigers were the leading club in Yorkshire in the early 1990s, finishing in the top four sides in the competition no less than four times during this period. The highlight was in 1994 when the Castleford Tigers defeated the High Flying Wigan Warriors to claim the regal Trophy, were semi-finalists in the challenge cup and were narrowly defeated in the premiership final.
The Castleford Tigers' elite position within the sport of Rugby League was further highlighted in 1995 when the club accepted a franchise to compete in the inaugural European Super League.
The 2007 season saw the Tigers playing in National League One, but winning promotion back to the top flight in their first year.
